MapTools UTM / MGRS tools come in four basic types.

Grid Tools

A Grid Tool allows you to subdivide the map grid into tenths. On a 1:24,000 USGS topographic map, the map grid is a 1000 meter square. The Grid Tool will allow you to quickly determine a 100 meter square.

Grid Tools are quick and easy to use. If you need more precision, consider using a corner ruler.

Grid Tools are available in the following scales:

1:24,000
1:25,000
1:50,000
1:100,000

Corner Rulers or"Roamers"

A Corner Ruler will allow very precise measurements to be made with in the existing map gird square. Each corner has a small hole to allow for placing a mark on the map.

MapTools offers 4 corner ruler style tools:

The Adventure Racing Tool contains
the following 5 scales:

1:10,000 1:15,000 1:24,000 1:25,000 1:30,000

The Pocket Corners Tool contains
the following 3 scales:

1:24,000 1:25,000 1:50,000

The Corner Ruler Tool contains
the following 8 scales:

1:24,000 1:25,000 1:50,000 1:62,500
1:63,360 1:100,000 1:150,000 1:250,000

The Aerial Photo Tool contains
the following 4 scales:

1:5,000 1:8,000 1:12,000 1:15,000

Triangle Corner Rulers or "Roamers"

These are similar to a regular corner ruler except that instead of a small hole at the corner to mark the map through, they have a die cut triangular opening.

The Military Style Coordinate Scale and Protractor is marked for 4 scales:

1:25,000
1:50,000
1:100,000
1:250,000

The tools has protractors marked in both degrees and mils.

Like the Corner Rulers and the Triangle Roamers these tools have two rulers at right angles. The north-south ruler has a slot cut in it for access to the map.
